"Electronics enlarge the field of what you can do in music," he enthuses. "You can make so many different types of sound, use non- tempered intervals and structures of sound that are much more complex than the sound of an instrument. " . Despite the cross-pollination which has occurred between avant- garde experimentation and creative contemporary dance music, Boulez remains unimpressed at the way the mainstream has adopted computer- based musics. "Dance music uses new technology in such a conventional way," he bemoans. "You can't find anything very striking in this kind of music. You have to invent, not just accept a menu handed to you by technicians. " .
